NIE Newsletter: May 2019


The school year has flown by. We can hardly believe the 2018-2019 NIE session is already coming to an end. It has been our pleasure to serve you and your students during this session, and we look forward to serving you again next school year!

If you are teaching Summer School, our summer session starts on June 17th; this is also the day you can sign up on the website.

News & Announcements

Very Important: We have been sending out year-end emails to confirm  your NIE order for the 2018-2019 session. Please note this needs to done as soon as possible as we need to receive your affidavit confirmation before you leave for summer vacation. This is required for all teachers enrolled in the 2018-2019 NIE session and is needed for our internal audit, which allows us to provide our services and resources to you at no-cost. As well, if you login to your NIE account and you have not confirmed your order, the affidavit will show, please press the “Confirm” button to continue.

If you cannot locate the confirmation email  please be sure to check your spam folder for an email from Be sure to add this email address to your safe list (as well, advise your school IT department to do the same). If you still cannot locate the email or for some reason cannot log into your NIE account, please contact us immediately at with the subject line: Affidavit Needed so we can send it to you.

As well, you will not be able to sign up for Summer or 2019-2020 sessions without first verifying your affidavit. Thank you!

National Physical Fitness & Sports Month. Get your students excited about exercise and get moving! We have many health & fitness guides available. Check out Fitness Head to Toe in which students learn how exercise, nutrition and lifestyle choices affect them head to toe. Or browse our Nutrition, Health, Fitness & Safety section for a variety of supplements.

Teen Self-Esteem Month. Teenagers need to know: Don’t underestimate yourself. They have the power to change almost anything — their school, town, state, country or even the world. The Power of You helps teens discover their value and self-confidence. Use this supplement as part of your curriculum in honor of teen self-esteem month.

National Mental Health Month. We can’t always control what happens to us, but we can control our response and the choices we make. Teach your students to make wise life decisions and to be healthy. Our Staying Healthy supplement features information on nutrition, exercise, drug use & abuse, self-esteem, and other topics.

We hope you feel honored today for your willingness to educate, influence, and make a positive difference. Don’t forget to do something special for yourself – you deserve it!

May 12 – Mother’s Day.  Help your students honor their moms! These  28 simple mother’s day crafts & gift ideas will allow your student’s creativity to shine as they express their love and thankfulness to the special mom in their lives!  And if you’re a mom, we wish you a wonderful Mother’s Day – thanks for all you do to help raise the next generation of leaders!

May 17 – National Endangered Species Day. Started in 2006 by the United States Congress, Endangered Species Day is a celebration of the nation’s wildlife and wild places that are currently in danger of extinction. You can visit the Endangered Species Coalition’s Education Program for downloadable lessons, special full-color reports, photos and videos, tool kits, lists of ideas and more to help you celebrate with your class and teach them about our endangered species.

May 27 – Memorial Day. This is a day of remembrance for those who have died while serving in the United States of America’s military. Visit History’s Memorial Day page for history, traditions, videos, photos, and other resources you can use to incorporate this day into your lesson plans during the month of May.

May 27 – 30 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Mark your calendars! The local spelling bee champions will now compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland. The competition will begin with three days of Preliminaries followed by the Primetime Finals on May 30 at 8:30 p.m.  One speller will emerge as the National Spelling Bee Champion from the initial pool of 11 million school spelling bee participants! Some familiar faces will be making an appearance. If you want more information you can visit the official website.

July 12 – 28 Read to Ride Program. The California State Fair is running a read to ride program again this year. For every two books you read, receive two rides free at the 2019 California State Fair, July 12 – 28. The Read to Ride program is open to students kindergarten through eighth grade. Students must read two books, write a summary, then bring the completed form to the California State Fair Guest Services office (located inside the Main Gate) to receive two free rides. Forms are available on their website.
